Mozambique is now on the list of the World's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exporters. It will have 2 LNG plants, all using the Rovuma Basin gas reserves.
Plant No. 1
*is an offshore Floating LGN
*will produce and export 3.4 million tons of LNG per annum
*export begins in November 2022
*main operator is Eni of Italy
Plant No. 2
*is onshore LNG plant
*will start producing 12.8 million tons of LNG per annum in 2024 (conflicts in northern Mozambique has delayed this project)
*full production of 13.1 million tons per annum (mtpa) will now take off in 2026
*main operator is TotalEnergies of France
Natural Gas reserves of Mozambique
*it holds 100 tcf (100 trillion cubic feet)
*unpublished reports argue for 200 tcf
*if we consider the 2017 World's total natural gas reserves of 6, 923 tcf, then Mozambique ranks 14th in World, accounting for approx 1% of the World's total.
